DSB organic farmer leads regional search for outstanding rural women

Dolores Rebatado-Ceralbo, an organic agriculture advocate from Barangay Pandanon in Don Salvador Benedicto, won this year’s regional search for outstanding rural women at the MO2 Westown Hotel in Iloilo City on Friday, October 14.

Ceralbo received a cash prize of 50,000 pesos, a project grant worth 50,000 pesos and a plaque of recognition.

His Assistant Technician Ma. Elena Ortega from the Office of Provincial Agronomist (OPA) – Negros Occidental received a cash prize of P15,000.00.

Meanwhile, Jocelyn Barrios of Numancia in Aklan took first place and received a cash prize of P30,000.00 and a plaque of recognition.

His assistant technician Juvi Trieste from OPA-Aklan received a cash prize of P10,000.

A special prize was awarded to Ma. Luz Sarad of Hamtic in Antique with his assistant technician Mariepet Sinos from the Office of the Municipal Agronomist – Hamtic, Antique.

Dolores Ceralbo’s passion for sustainable agriculture began with her simple goal: to provide three meals a day for her family.

Thanks to his dedication and hard work, Ceralbo was able to establish his integrated organic farm.

Hoping to help other farmers in the community, she organized a farmers’ association in 2006.

Through strong cooperation and commitment among members, the association has been linked with other organizations and institutions which have paved the way for various marketing opportunities.

National Director for Gender Equality and Social Inclusion, Annray Rivera, graced the awards ceremony.

She commended all rural women farmers and fisherwomen in the region, especially the regional qualifiers for their contribution in realizing the important role of women in agriculture.

Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Regional Director Remia Aparri and Western Visayas Department of Agriculture Finance and Administration Manager Zarlina Cuello were also present at the awards ceremony. (DA-WV)
