Organic food farm opens to visitors this weekend

An organic food farm in Leamington invites residents to learn all about its vegetable and fruit growing program.

Canalside Community Food is holding an open house at their farm near Radford Semele on Saturday October 16 from 11am.

In addition to the opportunity to explore the vegetable growing fields, tunnels, willow woven tunnels and orchard, there will be a fundraising party with activities including apple pressing, guess the pumpkin weight, t-shirt print and refreshments.

Canalside grows all the produce provided in its weekly produce boxes.

About 170 households in the local area subscribe to the scheme.

Spokesman Ali Jeffery said: “People often tell us that they walk by our door every day and have always wondered what we are doing, so we think opening the doors and showing people is a great way for them to find out how Canalside works and how they can get involved. We also want people to know that Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a successful model of agriculture, as there is more demand than existing CSA farms can serve – both locally and internationally. nationwide.

The funds raised will be used to buy an additional field for more fruit trees.

Two free tours will start at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and cash donations are welcome for any other activity.

Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic.
