State to lead India in organic farming: Governor Acharya Devvrat

Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat on Tuesday said organic farming was the need of the hour and added that the state will provide leadership in the country.

“For the enrichment of agriculture and the well-being of farmers, the need of the hour is to shift from synthetic chemical-based farming practices to an attractive option of organic (also called natural) farming practices and
Gujarat will provide leadership to the country on this front,” Devvrat said in an official statement.

The Governor was addressing a seminar for farmers on organic farming organized by the Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) and the Rajkot District Administration at the city’s Pramukhswami Auditorium. He inaugurated an exhibition on cereals, legumes, fruits, vegetables, species, etc. grown using organic farming practices on site.

“The green revolution based on chemical-based agriculture was necessary to meet the food grain needs in the county after independence. But now the undesirable results of chemical-based agriculture are becoming pronounced. farmers’ financial situation is deteriorating day by day,” Devvrat said.

He said that by adopting organic farming practices, farmers can reduce their cultivation costs while maintaining yield levels.
